In this 10 week course you will create large Intuitive Paintings and learn to “Trust the Process” by exploring elements of your painting in other sculptural mediums of clay, tinfoil and wire, body movement, poetry, and/or bookmaking as your process evolves.
Let the wild rumpus begin!
Our studio will expand outdoors as well into the newly created back patio/pergola space and the covered carport. Weather permitting some of our opening and closing circles will take place outdoors and like an indoor/outdoor cat you will get to decide where you want to create on a given day!
The initial session of the course begins with intention setting and each person creating their own personal sand-play tray from the EXPANDED myriads of figures. In surprising ways this process will prime the pump and seed your painting process with powerful personal symbols.
In the second session let the energy of your sandplay symbols move onto a painting surface of your choice and see how they evolve, grow, change, deepen and inspire you.
Each week as we go deeper into the process you will be encouraged to take fresh creative risks in your art journal provided for the class with take-home prompts, and in-class, by creating a body of work around YOUR central theme that will stretch into other modalities.
Some of the materials and techniques that will be explored in-studio and as home play:
Ceramic clay/Tinfoil-wire sculpture as deeper embodiments of painted imagery
Tiny prolific mini-paintings as gateways
Identifying your personal creativity mantra (for now)
Exploring the story of your painted imagery through book-making/poetry/movement
Each class is 3hours 10am-1pm our last session on March 10th is an expanded closing ceremony and will be from 10am-3pm with a light lunch included.
That’s a total of over 33 hours of studio time!
Two make up sessions will be available for missed classes, dates determined at first class.
Some new materials will be added and made available to you that are conducive to outdoor work :
Thin smooth boards that LOVE tempera paint as an alternate to painting on paper + the tar paper that has become a very LOVED surface in the studio!
House paints + spray paints (sprays used in an isolated area of yard to keep fumes contained)
Outdoor fire (when wind-weather permits) - offers an abundance of charcoal and chance to burn papers and boards as process elements
Each student will receive an art journal for explorations outside of class and occasionally other materials to take home and work with.
Enrollment is limited to 10 students
Payment arrangements can be made.
