The happiest place on earth is inside me. If it weren’t for the art sanctuary, Juicy Creatives Studio, Elise Crohn envisioned and fashioned, I may never have truly discovered or explored that happy place that lies within. Today I feel and understand the power that lies within my Self as I tap into this inner source of happiness from creating my own artistic masterpieces. I had no clue what Gyrokinesis was until it was incorporated in the Juicy Creatives Studio workshops. AND I have found myself more enamored by both the Gyrokinesis movements and the art I produce, as they solidly complement one another. Instructor Elissa is gentle as she guides us through a series of movements and stretches that wakens up joints, bones, and body parts by stretching, tapping, and massaging. And let me tell you, there were areas we touched that I had neglected to care for despite doing yoga postures and physically straining exercises regularly.The movements freed my body from its tightness and unflexed parts. As I became more comfortable with my body, I became more comfortable with painting. I loosened up and was fired up to paint. It was energizing yet calming. I mobilized my joints and heart to try something new in both movement and painting.

Together, they are comical, supportive, and embracing of everyone’s creativity no matter what experience, if any, you come with! They do fabulous nurturing and are wholeheartedly devoted to their passions. This summer's Camp Juicy! at Juicy Creatives Studio was my first experience with art.  When a good friend recommended this to me my first reaction was rejection--honestly I was afraid I couldn't do it.

I like to dance, I can put music into motion, can write and teach, but putting my creativity into painting or arts and crafts has never been my thing – until these 3 days spent at Juicy Creatives.

Praise for Elise Crohn and Juicy Creatives Studio

When I stumbled on juicycreatives.com, Elise Crohn’s website for her Juicy Creatives Studio, I was instantly hooked. Although I had put art on the back burner to focus on my poetry, the classes and workshops Elise was offering were irresistible. I signed up for the two-day Intuitive Painting Retreat.

On Friday January 24 I arrived for the first session, a 6-9 intensive introduction. The studio’s atmosphere itself is stimulating, not a corner or wall space devoid of zany art objects and evocative quotes from some of my favorite poets. Elise set the mood, prompting the participants to paint from the heart and risk stepping outside their comfort zone. For 2 hours I painted by candlelight. As the room grew dark,  at times I wasn’t sure which of the multitude of paint colors I was splashing onto my palette, which felt like permission to be loose, put the inner critic to bed, and just have fun. The next day’s session was from 9-5. Again

Elise encouraged us to be spontaneous, to keep rediscovering what we were painting, to let our heart’s lead. I painted for 5 hours on the same sheet from Friday night, adding paper on either end, layering paint on paint, going from consciously creating what was familiar and comfortable to a looser, expressionistic style, and I was loving it. When it came time for closure Elise had to almost drag me away from the painting.

To my surprise, Elise’s process was similar to the method I’ve always used in writing poetry. I start with an image, an idea, or a rhythm and then let the poem take over and teach me what my deeper self wants to say.  I let the unconscious interplay with what’s arriving and, if I’m lucky, I not only come up with a good piece of writing but discover something about myself in the process. You might call it dredging for gold. Well, this was exactly the method Elise used as guide and inspirer at the Intuitive Painting Retreat.

 Loving the experience was only part of the gift. I have since started painting again, letting colors and brushes speak for me, not dictating an outcome, but enjoying the surprise of how a work ends up. And this was derived from only one of the many offerings at Juicy Creatives.  I plan to be a frequent visitor to this magical and freeing place.
