In Spanish cultures through out the world the fall brings one of my most loved holidays--The Day of the Dead (Dia de Meurtos), in Christian tradition known as "All Souls Day". On this special day, people the world over create ornate altars in their homes and cemeteries honoring their dead to celebrate the lives they lived. On this day we let the dead know they are not forgotten and we honor their spirits with shrines, ceremonies and celebration! This is not a somber occasion, although tears may flow, it is a time to gather and remember and share stories--when we share our sweet memories of a person's life we bring them to life again.
Come join us as we create SoulCollage® cards and mini shrines honoring our beloved people! We will get a chance to tell their stories and hear the messages they still have through journaling, verbal sharing and writing short poems that honor their life.
There will be ample time and supplies to experiment with creating tissue paper Shrine Candles, and delve into the enormous amount of shrine making material on hand at Juicy Creatives including a plethora of cigar boxes!
As the sun sets, we will Light the shrine candles and twinkly lights and ceremonially witness each altar with celebration.
$75 includes all materials however bring photos of your loved ones to create your collages and you might want to bring special mementos that remind you of their life. Also bring some of your loved ones' favorite food for potluck after. In the tradition of Dia de Meurtos we will leave food offerings at each shrine for the dead to come and celebrate and be nourished with us--then we too will feast!
